CFFC 85 gets new championship headliner with Bobby Lee vs. Mike Hill

Interim welterweight title fight headlines Sept. 18 card at Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – With Cage Fury Fighting Championships welterweight titleholder Jeremiah Wells currently in discussions with one of MMA's biggest organizations, CFFC officials have elected to introduce an interim belt to the 170-pound division.

Top-rated welterweight prospect Bobby Lee (11-4), who was originally expected to face Wells in the CFFC 85 main event next week, will now compete for the interim welterweight title against Canadian import Mike "The Mercenary" Hill (11-4). The contest caps off a two-night run for Cage Fury Fighting Championships at the Memphis-area Horseshoe Tunica Hotel & Casino, with CFFC 84 on Sept. 17 and CFFC 85 on Sept. 18. 

Both events' main cards will stream live on UFC FIGHT PASS.

"To be clear, Jeremiah was ready to defend his title at CFFC 85, but he's also been in contact with one of the biggest organizations in the sport about a possible fight in the next few weeks," CFFC President Rob Haydak said. "We've said from the beginning that our goal is to get athletes ready to step up to the next level, and with this possibility in front of him right now, we didn't want to ask him to risk any injuries or scheduling complications that might prevent him from accepting that invitation. So we'll go with an interim title for now and see how things play out for Jeremiah in the meantime.

"If the discussions prove fruitful, we'll look forward to watching him compete soon at the sport's highest level. Otherwise, we plan on booking him again right away in October and giving him another opportunity to defend his CFFC title."

The CFFC 85 co-main event features undefeated Russian prospect Ramazan Kuramagomedov (7-0), a former Dana White's Contender Series winner, against Arkansas' Trevor Ollison (4-2), who was won all four of his professional fights by submission. Additionally, three-time UFC veteran Sean Soriano (13-6) faces off against fellow featherweight Jose Mariscal (10-5).
