Matt Munoz planning to close out CFFC Muay Thai 2 with fireworks: 'All my fights are exciting'

Munoz takes on Ahmad Ibrahim for inaugural 125-pound title on Saturday, June 15.

Matt Munoz originally started his combat sports career with the intention of competing in MMA, but once he took a deeper dive into muay Thai, he realized a change of plans was needed.

"Washington Dos Santos, 'Washingthai,' I was a student under him for a few years at Ohana, so Washington kind of paved the way for me into my muay Thai career, and then I met up with Bobby (Peek), and now we're here at Ambush," Munoz explained. "It's really a blessing, and a blessing in disguise. I never would have thought, you know, just me wanting to get outside my comfort zone and start doing MMA will travel down the line into my muay Thai career, man, so I really thank my coaches in the past, my MMA coaches, because they put me on to muay Thai, honestly man."

Munoz still has the utmost respect for athletes competing in MMA and actually still trains some grappling, as well. But it was the allure of the standup wars that are intrinsic to muay Thai that made it his real passion.

"I just like the standup game, the standup aspect of it, man," Munoz said. "I really like to just stand and bang. I mean, no discrediting MMA, you know? I love MMA. I still love to train jiu-jitsu, but just when it comes to fighting, I just like to stand and bang, bro."

The Texas native will get a chance to do exactly that when he faces fellow striking standout Ahmad Ibrahim in the main event of CFFC Muay Thai 2, which streams live on OnlyFans from Philadelphia's 2300 Arena on Saturday, June 15. The inaugural CFFC Muay Thai 125-pound title is on the line in the headlining matchup, and Munoz is grateful for the opportunity.

"It's exciting, man," Munoz said. "I'm really glad that after the years, all my hard work, my dedication is finally starting to pay off. You know, I'm starting to get more eyes on me, bigger spotlights on me. You know, it's a long time coming, man. Long time coming.

"I'm just excited as hell, man. Of course, first and foremost, I just want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to pave the way into my career, but just really excited. Really, really, really looking forward to it."

Munoz believes fans should be sharing that sense of anticipation for the matchup, as well. Known for his all-action style, Munoz has every intention of delivering excitement in the main event, and he believes his opponent, reigning WBC Muay Thai USA champion Ibrahim, has similar plans.

"I expect the fight to be fireworks," Munoz said. "Not discrediting his ability or his talents at all, but I'm a game opponent, as well, man. I'm coming in to bring it."

Winning, of course, is always the ideal scenario, and the added attention of a headlining contest with a title on the line makes the potential glory all that much greater, but Munoz believes focusing on a result doesn't always yield the best outcome. Instead, he simply knows he's stepping in the ring with his mind set on an all-out battle, and he hopes everyone watching will enjoy the show.

"Expect everyone to see, like I said, really a great show of heart – a really great show of just muay Thai in general, man," Munoz said. "I mean, all my fights are exciting, bro. Pretty much every fight that I've been in ever since my amateur career has been 'Fight of the Night.' They're really high, high-level, high-octane fights, man.

"It's never a boring fight whenever I step into that ring, you know? And the same thing, going for Ahmad. I know every time he steps in the ring, it's not a boring fight. He's always showing a high-level class of muay Thai. Really high-paced, high-intensity fights, and, you know, like I said, it's just going to be fireworks, bro. I'm really, really, excited for this one. I'm really looking forward to it."

CFFC Muay Thai 2 streams live exclusively on OnlyFans.
