Former Champ Webb returns at CFFC 60
The last time we saw former CFFC welterweight champion, Jonavin Webb, compete was on the losing end of a decision in the UFC. This Saturday, Webb has a shot at redemption when he takes on the undefeated Isaac Steele in the main event of Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) 60 live at the Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
“Jon has always been the constant professional when fighting under the CFFC banner,” stated CFFC CEO Robert Haydak Jr. “I know he’s disappointed with his stint in the UFC, however, he’s young and only a few wins away from getting right back there.
"The UFC experience was good because I got to compete on the biggest stage in the world for MMA and I got to travel the world a little while doing it, but I’m so happy to be fighting back in my home state and fighting for the organization that groomed me into a champion."
During his tenure with CFFC, Webb, now a father, went undefeated with a no contest against Lyman Good after in inadvertent eye poke. After that fight, Webb (8-2-1NC, 8-0-1 CFFC) was able to submit Elijah Harshbarger in the first round which lead to his UFC calling. But with Webb coming back to CFFC, he didn’t want an easy opponent. After his originally scheduled opponent, TUF finalist Haydar Hassan withdrew due to an injury, CFFC brass located one of the top prospects in the country with Isaac Steele (5-0, CFFC debut) who has finished all but one of his opponents.
“This fight has nothing to do with my opponent,” continued Webb. “I made it to the top while being the nice guy but on this run there is no more Mr. nice guy. I’m back to training with my home team while also adding some new training regimens and I feel more prepared than ever. They can put whoever in front of me on August 6th and the results will be the same.
“I truly believe the birth of Jon’s daughter has given him a whole new perspective on his life’s goals,” concluded Haydak. “He was meant to compete and when he’s focused, there are not many who can beat him. Expect the Webb’s fan base to have the Borgata energized as their hero returns to action Saturday night!”
