Cage Fury Fighting Championships heads to Fitz Tunica Casino & Hotel in August
Vacant bantamweight title up for grabs in CFFC 99 headliner
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Memphis area will once again play host to Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC).
Promotion officials are happy to announce that Fitz Tunica Casino & Hotel will serve as the location for CFFC 99, which takes place Saturday, Aug. 14 and streams live on UFC FIGHT PASS from Tunica, Miss. The vacant CFFC bantamweight title is on the line in the night's main event, with undefeated prospect Christian Rodriguez (5-0) currently awaiting a new opponent after his originally scheduled foe, veteran contender Kris Moutinho (9-4), was signed to the UFC to compete at this weekend's blockbuster UFC 264 event.
"Following our acquisition of V3Fights, we remain committed to bringing our brand of high-quality live events to the Memphis area," CFFC President Rob Haydak said. "With our former bantamweight champion, Jared Scoggins, signing with one of the sport's biggest promotions, we've now got an incredibly talented athlete challenging for the vacant title in Christian Rodriguez, and we'll be able to announce his new opponent shortly after Kris Moutinho became the latest CFFC fighter to join the UFC.
"This will be another action-packed night full of athletes looking to make their way to the international stage."
Additional featured bouts include a pair of undefeated featherweights facing off with submission ace Jose Perez (4-0) meeting striking specialist DeAndre "The Protégé" Anderson (4-0), as well as the return of Khetag "The Lion" Pliev (5-1), who takes on UFC, Bellator and Strikeforce veteran Nah-Shon "The Rock-N-Rolla" Burrell (17-11).
Former WWE champion and two-time UFC veteran CM Punk calls the action on UFC FIGHT PASS alongside MMA Junkie lead staff reporter John Morgan. Tickets are on sale now at CFFC.tv.
Rodriguez boasts a perfect career record through his first five professional contests, as well as a 100 percent finishing rate with three knockouts and two submissions to his credit. The 23-year-old Roufusport MMA product made his CFFC debut in March and secured a third-round TKO win over a gritty Charalampos Grigoriou. He now looks to become CFFC's next bantamweight champion, following in the footsteps of previous titleholders such as Jared Scoggins, Ricky Bandejas, Jimmie Rivera and current UFC champion Aljamain Sterling.
Stay tuned to CFFC.tv for future announcements regarding CFFC 99. More bouts will be announced shortly.
