FURY Professional Grappling 12 results: Sean Brady taps out 'Boogeyman' Martinez, calls for London booking with Leon Edwards

Brady closes out the 2024 UFC FIGHT PASS calendar in style with slick guillotine finish.

PHILADELPHIA, P.A. – UFC welterweight contender Sean Brady delivered big in his hometown, scoring an impressive submission win over veteran submission artist Richie Martinez in the main event of Saturday's FURY Professional Grappling 12 and then called for his next MMA booking in March, requesting a matchup in London against former UFC champion Leon Edwards.

The action capped off an exciting night featuring a number of UFC notables that streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS from 2300 Arena.

As expected, Brady looked to work for the majority of the match in top position, while "Boogeyman" Martinez used his patented 10th Planet rubber guard to set up his attacks. Martinez did briefly tease a few submissions along the way, including a solid isolation on Brady's right arm that forced him to slam out of the hold, but the UFC welterweight was up to the challenge. Shortly after that escape, Brady teased an attack on his opponent's right arm before reaching back and setting up a guillitne choke.

Brady then drive the left arm through for the connection and squeezed from mount to get the tap.

Following the win and a promise to make a trip to California to train with Martinez, Brady said he's hoping the UFC will book him against former UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards when the promotion returns to England in March.

"I want to go to London, and I want to fight Leon in his backyard, March 22, so hopefully the UFC can make it happen, but we'll see," Brady said.

In the night's highly anticipated co-main event, former freestyle wrestling national champion Pat Downey scored an overtime victory in his FURY Professional Grappling debut, muscling through a takedown to secure a win over UFC middleweight Andre Petroski.

Petroski had a few solid submission attempts from his back during regulation, but Downey was able to remain safe as he looked to attack from top position. Neither man could break through in regulation, however, leaving the result up to a golden score.

Once in overtime, Petroski initiated a early takedown, but Downey countered beautifully, wrapped the body and brought the action to the floor, settling into side control and securing the win.

Following the win, Downey, who recently received his Brazilian jiu-jitsu purple belt, said he's enjoying his entry into the world of submission grappling, where he appears to be a potential force on the rise.

"If ya'll like it, I love it," Downey said. "Grappling, you've been nothing but great to me since wrestling canceled me, and I feel like I found my new home."

Additionally, fast-rising UFC middleweight contender Joe Pyfer scored an impressive overtime victory, needing just 23 seconds to secure a massive slamming takedown of Nick Willey to take home the win via golden score. Afterward, Pyfer revealed that he's got a fight booked for early 2025, though he declined to reveal the opponent.

"I'm not going to say it," Pyfer said. "Very soon, guys, and we're going to whoop his ass! Let's go!"
