How to watch Friday's 'CFFC Match Day: Uncivil War' event: Start time, event preview, more
NCAA wrestling royalty debuts on UFC FIGHT PASS as Iowa takes on Princeton and Army.
The CFFC Match Day season rolls on this Friday, with two separate NCAA Division I college wrestling duals, as the 24-time National Champion Iowa Hawkeyes make their UFC FIGHT PASS debut in matches with the Princeton Tigers and Army West Point Black Knights.
The back-to-back matchups, presented by Journeyman Wrestling and dubbed "Uncivil War," stream live beginning at 7 p.m. ET (6 p.m. CT local time) from Francis Howell High School in St. Charles, Missouri. Longtime MMA journalist and broadcaster John Morgan will call the show alongside five-time UFC veteran and former University of Olivet wrestler Justin Jaynes.
Currently ranked No. 2 in the nation according to InterMat, the University of Iowa is one of the most successful programs in the history of NCAA Division I wrestling and are 4-0 on the season in dual meets after downing perpetual rival Iowa State 21-15 two weeks ago. They've also registered wins over Bellarmine, Stanford and Oregon State, going 25-5 in individual matches over those three results.
After finishing fifth in the 2024 NCAA Championships – quite the accomplishment for most programs but considered a bit of a disappointment for a powerhouse like Iowa – the team took to the transfer portal and added a trio of multiple-time All-Americans to the roster in Stephen Buchanan, Kyle Parco and Jacori Teemer. With returning All-Americans Michael Caliendo and Drake Ayala in place for the Hawkeyes, as well, the team has high expectations at March's NCAA Championships in Philadelphia.
The Hawkeyes will start the night on Friday against Princeton, who return to CFFC Match Day for the second and final time this season following a November loss to the NC State Wolfpack, who are currently No. 8 in the nation. At that event, Princeton's victories were earned by Ty Whalen at 149 pounds and Luke Stout at 197, and each man is expected to return in featured matchups on Friday.
Meanwhile, Iowa's potential lineup is loaded with talent, with seven wrestlers currently sitting in the top-10 in the nation. The lone questionable potential starter is Jacori Teemer, who currently holds InterMat's No. 1 ranking at 157 pounds but appeared to injure his hamstring against Iowa State before defaulting out of the match.
While the official starters for both duals will be determined just ahead of the first match, the potential lineups for Iowa vs. Princeton include:
125: #32 Kale Petersen (IOWA) vs. #30 Ethan Rivera (PRIN)
133: #6 Drake Ayala (IOWA) vs. Daniel Jones (PRIN)
141: #31 Ryder Block (IOWA) vs. Eligh Rivera (PRIN)
149: #4 Kyle Parco (IOWA) vs. #9 Ty Whalen (PRIN)
157: #1 Jacori Teemer vs. Zander Silva (PRIN)
165: #2 Michael Caliendo (IOWA) vs. Cody Tavoso (PRIN)
174: #9 Nelson Brands (IOWA) vs. Xavier Giles (PRIN)
184: #8 Gabe Arnold (IOWA) vs. #27 Mikey Squires (PRIN)
197: #2 Stephen Buchanan (IOWA) vs. #18 Luke Stout (PRIN)
HWT: #13 Ben Kueter (IOWA) vs. #33 Sebastian Garibaldi (PRIN)
The action then continues at approximately 9 p.m. ET (8 p.m. CT local time) with Iowa returning to the mats to face Army.
The Black Knights are off to a great start in the 2024-25 season, standing at 3-0 in dual meets after wins over Buffalo, Purdue and Gardner-Webb, and are ranked No. 25 in InterMat's latest Team Dual rankings. It's Army's second appearance on UFC FIGHT PASS, suffering a loss to Campbell University in last season's Battle at Liberty.
This year's Black Knights squad features eight nationally ranked wrestlers, up from just four from their debut appearance on CFFC Match Day, including Gunner Filipowicz at 165 pounds, who sits just outside the top-10 at No. 13.
The Army lineup wrestles just once on the night, while Iowa's athletes could be stepping on the mats for the second time in the evening when they face the Black Knights.
