Michael Chiesa, Morgan Werth join CFFC BJJ 14 broadcast team on UFC FIGHT PASS
Veteran UFC on-air talents join John Morgan for Friday's event at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) officials are excited to welcome veteran UFC on-air talents Michael Chiesa and Morgan Werth to the CFFC BJJ 14 broadcast team on Friday, July 25.
Chiesa will debut for the organization as color commentator for the event, joining CFFC General Manager and longtime MMA journalist John Morgan on the call, which streams live on UFC FIGHT PASS from the incredible Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City. Meanwhile, Werth will serve as backstage reporter on the evening, providing insight on the night's competitors in the latest edition of the CFFC's star-studded submission grappling series and the first under its rebranded CFFC BJJ name.
"It's an honor for us to welcome in Michael and Morgan for CFFC BJJ 14, two names that are quickly becoming synonymous with the growth of Brazilian jiu-jitsu and submission grappling on UFC FIGHT PASS," CFFC CEO Rob Haydak said. "Michael was spectacular alongside Din Thomas at UFC BJJ 1, and it's a pleasure for us to feature his enthusiasm and knowledge on this broadcast, and Morgan has done incredible work with the UFC FIGHT PASS Invitational, 'Road to the UFC,' and much more. We look forward to seeing more of Morgan's work with the continued growth of UFC BJJ, and we're happy to now feature her and Michael as part of CFFC BJJ's development, as well."
Chiesa – a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, "The Ultimate Fighter 15" winner and 13-year UFC veteran with 21 octagon appearances under his belt – was featured most recently as color commentator on the historic debut edition of UFC BJJ, which streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS as part of International Fight Week. "Maverick" will reprise the role at UFC BJJ 2 on Thursday, July 31 at the UFC Apex but will first make a stop on the historic Atlantic City Boardwalk for CFFC BJJ 14.
Meanwhile, Werth is increasingly becoming a mainstay on UFC programming, working as a reporter for the UFC FIGHT PASS Invitational, "Road to UFC," Power Slap, and more, in addition to her role as an Associate Producer behind the scenes for an extensive list of programming that includes features for both UFC pay-per-view and UFC Fight Night events, Dana White's Contender Series, and the Facebook show "UFC Quick Hits."
Outside of her combat sports responsibilities, the Clemson University graduate also works as a reporter with the National Lacrosse League's Las Vegas Desert Dogs.
CFFC BJJ 14 is headlined by an intriguing matchup for the organization's inaugural light heavyweight title. Former U.S. National Champion and NCAA Division I All-American wrestler Pat "PD3" Downey enters the contest on the strength of two previous victories for the promotion, but he now faces reigning CFFC MMA light heavyweight champion and Dante Rivera Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu representative Luke Fernandez. The winner of the contest joins Patrick Sabatini and Junny Ocasio as the first titleholders in the organization's four-year history.
Key featured matchups for CFFC BJJ 14 include two-time IBJJF Black Belt No-Gi World Championships winner Elder Cruz against Jay Regalbuto and Jonavin Webb black belt Steve "Captain America" Joachim, 10-time FURY Professional Grappling veteran Andrew Kochel vs. Crazy 88 instructor Sergio Vilas, and five-time FURY Professional Grappling veteran Daishi Goto taking on Jiu Livre Grappling Office founder Jarbem Pacheco.
In additional news, the following night's CFFC NextGen 1 event – which also takes place at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on Saturday, July 26 – will see current CFFC featherweight champion Ryan Cafaro make his return to the commentary desk for the promotion. "Korean Thunder" will join John Morgan to call the historic launch of the promotion's new Next Generation series. Broadcast details for CFFC NextGen 1, along with complete lineups for both nights, will be announced shortly.
