CFFC 153 results: Lucas Seibert makes quick work of Sebastian Ruiz to claim interim title, calls for Contender Series invite
Former NextGen champion now adds professional title to his trophy case following razor-thin main event in Atlantic City
PHILADELPHIA – With reigning CFFC bantamweight champion Sean Mora currently filming on "The Ultimate Fighter 34," an interim title was introduced at Friday's CFFC 153, and the undefeated Lucas Seibert claimed the belt with a slick submission win.
Seibert (7-0 MMA, 1-0 CFFC) needed less than three minutes to take the title with a victory over Sebastian Ruiz (7-5 MMA, 1-1 CFFC) in the headlining bout of the night, which streamed live on UFC FIGHT PASS from 2300 Arena.
Ruiz did find initial success with a handful of kicks to the legs and body, striking a more steady posture than his opponent, who was switching stances and moving laterally as he looked for openings. That came about a minute into the contest, as Seibert changed levels and was able to wrap the body as the action went to the cage. From there, a takedown followed shortly after, with Seibert elevating Ruiz and laying him on the canvas.
As Ruiz tried to turn and build his way to the feet, Seibert was able take top position and pull his opponent's right arm behind his back, limiting his defense. From there, Seibert wrapping the neck, locking in the guillotine choke and squeezing until he got the tap at the 2:42 mark of the first round.
After taking home the win, Seibert called for his shot on Dana White's Contender Series after nearly being selected to appear on "The Ultimate Fighter" alongside Mora earlier this month.
"I know they're booking Contender Series out right now," Seibert said. "I'm 7-0. I haven't lost a round in my career. I have two regional titles, one in one of the biggest organizations in the entire world. Book me for Dana White's Contender Series. I'll see you guys in the fall."
