CFFC 157 weigh-in results: Abdysamat Malakanov 10 pounds heavy; Manny Morales vs. Sarek Shields promoted to main event
Friday's event proceeds with 10 bouts from New Jersey's Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Friday's CFFC 157 has a new main event after a previously scheduled vacant featherweight title fight was scrapped at the scale.
The changes unfolded at Thursday's official weigh-in ceremony, which took place at New Jersey's Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, the same venue that hosts Friday's event, streaming live on UFC FIGHT PASS and OnlyFans.com/cffcmma.
Promotional newcomer Abdysamat Malakanov (4-1 MMA, 0-0 CFFC) declined to continue his weight descent after reaching 155.2 pounds for the planned headliner, and fellow challenger Christian Bobe (4-1 MMA, 4-1 CFFC), who unofficially registered 145.8 pounds upon learning of his opponent's infraction, wasn't interested in adjusting the terms of the contest on such short notice.
With that matchup falling through, a welterweight contest between Manny Morales (7-2 MMA, 3-2 CFFC) and Sarek "The Beserker" Shields (8-3 MMA, 0-0 CFFC) was promoted to the night's featured bout. Morales hit the scales first at 170.4 pounds, while Shields followed at 170.6
There was one additional miss on the day, as bantamweight Abraham Charles (2-1 MMA, 0-1 CFFC) registered 138.2 pounds on both his first and second trip to the scale for his matchup with Tayvonne Thomas (2-0 MMA, 0-0 CFFC). Charles was fined for the infraction, and the bout will go on as scheduled.
Additionally, reigning CFFC 190-pound champion Joey Milano (7-1 MMA, 2-0 CFFC) will now look for double champ status when he takes on challenger Jesse Pastore (6-2 MMA, 0-0 CFFC). Originally expected to be a 190-pound title bout, Pastore requested the change in division and tipped the scales at 194.2 pounds. Milano agreed to the move and registered 191.2 pounds.
Everyone else on the card made weight without issue.
