Cage Fury Fighting Championships returns in August with back-to-back blockbusters
Five title fights featured in two-night run on UFC Fight Pass
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The wait is over. Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) is ready to return to action, and one night of fights simply wasn’t enough.
Five championship bouts have been split atop the bills of CFFC 82 and CFFC 83, which will stream live and exclusive on UFC FIGHT PASS on Aug. 12 and 13, respectively. The two cards will take place at 2300 Arena in Philadelphia but will be closed to the public due to the nation’s ongoing reaction to the current global pandemic.
“We have been working diligently behind the scenes during this unusual time in our sport to develop extensive safety protocols that both meet and exceed the requirements of athletic commissions and local governments,” CFFC President Rob Haydak said. “With those plans now in place, we are excited to get back to work and bring fans the types of events they’re used to seeing from us, as we find and develop talent bound for the UFC. These back-to-back events feature some incredible athletes who simply can’t wait to get back in the cage. Once the pandemic subsides we’ll return to our Philadelphia home at Parx Casino - but until then we’re back at the historic 2300 Arena in South Philly bringing you great championship fights once again.”
Former WWE champion and two-time UFC veteran CM Punk calls the fights along with MMA Junkie’s John Morgan.
The incredible two-night run kicks off with CFFC 82 and a headlining rematch more than four years in the making, with CFFC heavyweight champion Shawn “The Norwegian Nightmare” Teed (6-2-1) taking on six-time CFFC veteran Chris Daukaus (8-3).
Teed made his professional debut in December 2015 with a second-round submission win over Daukaus, who has since gone 6-1 in seven appearances, with five of those victories by way of stoppage. He now challenges for the title Teed claimed in November.
In the co-feature, undefeated prospect Santo Curatolo (4-0) faces Canadian import James “Boom Boom” Mancini (6-4) with the vacant CFFC flyweight belt on the line.
Meanwhile, CFFC 83 takes place the following night and features a championship tripleheader. In the main event, CFFC welterweight champion Jeremiah Wells (8-2-1) looks to defend his belt for the first time when he faces three-time UFC veteran Bobby “Nasty” Nash (9-4).
Additionally, former CFFC featherweight champion Pat Sabatini (11-3) returns to action just six months after suffering a gruesome arm injury and looks to reclaim the vacant title when he takes on recent Dana White’s Contender Series entrant Bill “Senor Perfecto” Algeo (12-4).
The featherweight title is being vacated by James Gonzalez (6-3) who won the title in February. After taking the bout on short notice and up one weight class, Gonzalez now desires to return to his natural fighting weight and challenge for the bantamweight title later this year.
“I wanna be a two division champion, I have fought some of the best guys in the northeast region. I wanna prove I’m the best in two weight classes” said Gonzalez.
CFFC’s vacant strawweight title will also be on the line when a pair of undefeated prospects clash, with Canadian import Jasmine Jasudavicius (4-0) taking on California’s Elise Reed (1-0).
