CFFC 62 Recap & Results
What a night it was!
CFFC 62 was an action-packed evening that left us with two new champions, and lots of fights to remember. The 2300 Arena was packed on Saturday night for CFFC 62 and the fighters did not disappoint.
In our main event of the evening Sean "Shorty Rock" Santella submitted Matt "SMG" Lozano in round three to win the interim flyweight belt. As a result, Santella has just one fight to be made and that's a title unifcation bout vs. current CFFC flyweight title holder Louis Gaudinot. In our exclusive interview with Santella, he had a feeling Gaudinot wouldn't want to fight him due to a bad matchup. Late Saturday evening Gaudinot responded subtly with an instagram post calling Santella and Lozano "two jesters fighting." Perhaps we will see our two flyweight champs face-off after all.
Our Co-Main event of the evening was a featured lightweight title bout between Mike "Popezilla" Pope and "Iron city" Mike Wilkins. Towards the end of round one Pope caught Wilkins going for a takedown and he sunk in a tight guillotine. The fight was over just like that. Pope will look to become the 5th CFFC lightweight champion to use the prestige of the title to catapult him into the UFC.
Another notable finish was Joe Solecki getting his seventh straight first round victory by submitting Andrew Chirico via rear-naked choke. Solecki has gone from a twelve year-old kid watching CFFC 1 to one of our most promising prospects. You can read about Joe Solecki's MMA inspiration here.
CFFC 62 closed out 2016 with style and we can't wait to bring you CFFC 63! See you in February!
