CFFC welterweight champ Evan Cutts meets undefeated knockout artist Yohan Lainesse on July 3
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC) returns to action on July 3, when reigning welterweight champion Evan "The Butcher" Cutts (12-4) meets the dangerous Yohan "White Lion" Lainesse (6-0) in the main event of CFFC 98.
"After his historic title win in April, we're thrilled to announce Evan Cutts is putting his belt on the line for the first time at CFFC 98," CFFC President Rob Haydak said. "Challenging for the belt is fan favorite Yohan Lainesse, who has looked absolutely fantastic in his three appearances in the CFFC cage so far. You've got a veteran champion with a dangerous grappling game against a fast-rising prospect who can end a fight with his striking at any point in the night. This matchup promises to be absolutely fantastic."
CFFC 98 stream live on UFC FIGHT PASS from Philadelphia's 2300 Arena, with former WWE champion and two-time UFC veteran CM Punk calling the fights alongside MMA Junkie lead staff reporter John Morgan. Tickets are on sale now at CFFC.tv.
A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt and 10-year MMA veteran, Cutts made his CFFC debut in April, taking then-champ Bassil Hafez the distance in the first title fight in promotional history to go a full five rounds via sudden death. Cutts was awarded the win and title by split decision, improving to 6-1 in his past seven appearances – a run that includes a victory over current UFC welterweight Ramiz Brahimaj.
Meanwhile, undefeated Canadian contender Lainesse has rattled off three victories in the CFFC cage since debuting for the promotion this past August. After scoring a first-round stoppage of a then-unbeaten Connor Dixon at CFFC 82, Lainesse returned at CFFC 86 with a stunning first-round knockout via flying knee in one of the greatest highlights in CFFC history. At March's CFFC 93, Lainesse handed Troy Green his first loss as a professional, and now "White Lion" hopes to claim the CFFC title and an invitation to the sport's biggest promotions.
CFFC 98 caps off a two-night run for the organization at 2300 Arena, with the same venue playing host to the debut of FURY Professional Grappling on Friday, July 2.
Stay tuned to CFFC.tv for future announcements regarding CFFC 98 and FURY Professional Grappling 1. More bouts will be announced shortly.
